Getting Even

Scene:  Brady’s office…..

Brady:  Who the hell are you???

Nelson:  You don’t know me, do you?

Brady:  No I don’t.

Nelson:  Does the name Wanda Freeman ring a bell?

Brady:  Wanda Freeman??  I haven’t thought about her in years.

Nelson:  Yeah.  You split on her in March of 1975.  Bet you didn’t know she was pregnant, did you?

Brady:  What???  That’s ridiculous!!!

Nelson:  Is it?  Dad??

Brady:  You mean…..

Nelson:  That’s right.  I’m Nelson Freeman.  Your son.  She was pregnant with me.  I was born in October of 1975.  She tired to come to you for help and support and you didn’t offer her one thin dime.  She became a prostitute because of you and she ended up dying of a heroin overdose in 1982.  Yeah that’s right…..Dad…..Mom’s dead.

Cole:  Bet Dominique Deveraux didn’t know  what you were up to either.  Just so you know.  We’re the ones who have been buying up stock in your company. As a matter of fact, we just made a deal to buy up another 15%.

Nelson:  Of course you know your 10% stake in the Deveraux Group is now gone.

Cole:  As of now, Nelson and I now own 25% of your company.

Brady:  Wait a minute.  You said you bought another 15%.

Cole:  No.  I said we made a deal to buy another 15%.

Nelson:  Meet our partner.

Patrick (enters the room about thirty seconds later):  Hello, Brady.

Brady:  You???  You bought the other 5%???

Patrick:  That’s right, Brady.  Let’s talk a little history.  You remember a guy named Gary Tilden?

Brady:  Gary Tilden???

Patrick:  Oh come on, Brady.  Think hard.  It’ll come to you.

Brady:  I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Patrick (grabs Brady by the shirt collar and shoves him up against the wall):  Oh no??  I happen to know that Gary Tilden was a hitman for the Ardizzone Crime Family in Los Angeles.  You paid him to strong arm Dominique into taking on the Ardizzones as partners in exchange for a cut on any future album sales.  Not only did you two time on Dominique, but you paid a mob hitman to harass her.  Dominique is family.  You mess with her.  You mess with me.  You got that???

Brady:  What proof do you have?

Patrick (pulls a few checks out of the inside breast pocket of his sport coat):  Hmmmm…..isn’t this your John Hancock in the lower right hand corner?  In case you’re wondering Gary Tilden is serving 125 years in federal prison for racketeering and Money Laundering.

Brady:  So what did you do with my shares of the Deveraux Group?

Patrick:  They’re not your shares anymore, Brady.  I’m not going to lie to you.  I offered them back to Dominique in exchange for 25% of her stake in Denver-Carrington in a straight up swap.

Cole:  Pleasure doing business with you.

Nelson:  Just wait and see what happens when you go to prison and we take your whole company.

Patrick:  We’ll see ourselves out.

 

(about an hour later back at Denver-Carrington Center)

Miranda:  Patrick.  Good.  You’re back.  Dominique.  Allison and Corrie Cox are in your office.

Patrick:  Good.  I’m glad.  Because I have some news for them and another proposition for Dominique.

Leslie:  You’re back.  How did it go?

Patrick: Went really well.

Dominique:  Milton and Nick told me about the little agreement you all worked out yesterday.

Patrick:  And?  Does it meet with your approval?

Dominique:  Absolutely.  And I want to thank you for getting my shares of the Deveraux Group back.

Leslie:  We’re family Dominique.  That’s what families do.

Allison:  I got with Corrie last night and we hammered out the final details.

Corrie:  If you could just sign right here.

Leslie:  So what’s this other proposition that you have?

Patrick:  Oh yeah.  But before I get to that.  Babe?  Should we tell Dominique what we found out?

Leslie:  Oh absolutely.

Dominique:  Tell me what?

Patrick:  You better sit down.

Dominique (sit down on the sofa):  I’m sitting down now, Step-Nephew.  Let’s have it.

Patrick:  OK.  we now know that Alexis was working with Brady on the attempted takeover of your company.

Dominque (angry):  I KNEW IT!!!!

Patrick:  That’s only Part One.

Patrick:  Part Two.  We know now who’s behind the planned hostile takeover of Lloyd Enterprises.

Dominique:  Who is it?

Patrick:  One  of the people behind it is Cole Gioberti of Gioberti Enterprises.

Dominique:  Of the Falcon Crest Winery Family?

Patrick:  One and the same.  Only he left the wine business years ago,

Dominique:  Well who’s the other person?  Tell me.

Leslie:  Dominique.  We did a little digging and it seems that Brady was two timing you in the mid 70’s.

Dominique (still angry):  SOMEHOW!!!!!  I KNEW IT!!!!  I DON’T KNOW HOW, BUT I KNEW IT!!!!!

Patrick:  Whew!  That was the easy part.

Dominique:  Go on.

Patrick:  Her name was Wanda Freeman.  She was supposed to be the lead vocalist for a girl group that Brady was trying to put together.  Called the Wandettes.  They were kind of a rip off of the Ronettes.

Dominique:  I remember the Ronettes.  Ronnie Spector is a friend of mine.

Patrick:  Their version of “Frosty the Snowman” is my favorite.

Dominique:  And guess who one of the backing vocalists was.  🙂

Patrick:  NO WAY!  🙂  You were a Ronnette?

Dominique:  For one day.  One of the other girls called in sick.  So they asked me to fill in.  They liked the take with me in it so much, they decided to use it on the Phil Spector Christmas Album.

Patrick:  WHOA!

Leslie:  Anyway.  She got pregnant sometime early in 1975 and gave birth to a son named Nelson Freeman.

Patrick:  He is the other person behind the hostile takeover of Lloyd Enterprises.

Leslie:  Brady found out she was pregnant and left her high and dry without a dime.  She kept asking him for help and he kept refusing.  She turned to drugs and prostitution and ended up dying of a Heroin overdose in 1982.

Dominique:  My God!

Patrick:  There’s something else.  it concerns Gary Tilden.

Dominique:  Gary Tilden?  What about him?

Patrick:  Well…..I remember Nick telling me about how Gary Tilden was sent to harass you.  (pulls the checks out of his coat pocket) Take a look at these.  Look at the signature in the lower right hand corner.

Dominique:  Oh my God!  All this time it was Brady??

Patrick:  That’s right.  Brady was working with the Ardizzone Crime Family.  Cole and Nelson went in with a third partner to buy another 15% of Lloyd Enterprises preferred stock.

Dominque:  And who was the third partner?

Patrick:  We were.

Leslie:  Denver-Carrington bought 5% of Lloyd Enterprises yesterday afternoon.

Dominique:  You did?  Why?

Patrick:  That brings me to the other proposition I have for you.

Dominique:  And what are you proposing?

Patrick:  What I am proposing is an agreement similar to what we worked out yesterday.  We are offering our stake in Lloyd Enterprises to you in exchange for one sixth of your now 30% stake in Denver-Carrington, which would still make you a 25% partner in Denver-Carrington.

Dominique:  And the 5% of Lloyd Enterprises would give me enough leverage to work with Mr. Gioberti and Mr. Freeman in their bid for a hostile takeover.

Patrick:  Right.

Leslie:  Do we have a deal?

Dominique:  Yes.  We do have deal.  (turns to Allison and Corrie)  Ladies?

Allison:  We’ll get together and hammer out the final details and have it ready by close of business tomorrow.

Corrie:  We’ll email you a copy.

Patrick:  That’s fine, but I’d also like your brilliant young Executive Gopher to run a hard copy on up here.

Corrie:  Not a problem.

Patrick:  Well then it looks like we have a deal.

 

(a few minutes later as Dominique is leaving)

 

Dominique:  Oh, Brady.  You’ve messed with the wrong woman.
